PECANPRO NURSERY PRODUCTS
Grafted nursery seedlings are packed in bundles of 10 trees, of the same size and variety. All tree stems are cut back to a uniform length before sorting and packing. Roots vary in length between 500mm and 1000mm. Trees are packed in moist sawdust for maximum protection and to prevent drying of the roots.
Trees are sorted in four different sizes to meet customer’s individual needs.
- Small >6mm – 8mm
- Medium >8mm – 15mm
- Large >15mm – 22mm
- X-Large >22mm – 30mm
The official SAPPA color code is used to mark the different varieties and the ground level is clearly marked with white paint, to ensure that trees can be planted to the correct depth.
To prevent any drying of the roots we stack the packed trees onto specially made pallets and wrap the entire pallet with cling wrap. These pallets have been tested and improve the handling of large orders.
We use our own transport and deliver trees to depots in Cradock, Vaalharts and Upington, at a competitive rate.
We assist growers with the selection of the best varieties; we can help with orchard layout and with pecan information in general. Over the years we have established 250 ha of our own orchards, giving us valuable first-hand knowledge.
A higher tree density can be considered to get into full production sooner and to get a faster return on investment. Additional trees must be removed or a hedging program followed, before trees overcrowd.
Small, medium, large and extra-large trees are packed separate to cater for customer’s individual needs. The cost of the planting material is a small portion of the investment in a new pecannut venture. Buy the best trees you can afford.
